Repair or replace? A straight answer for six common devices

We turn away repairs that do not make financial sense. Here is the arithmetic we use, so you can run it yourself.
Our rule of thumb: if the repair costs less than 40% of the device's realistic replacement value and the rest of the hardware is healthy, repair wins — comfortably, and with a far smaller carbon footprint.
Where repair almost always wins
Flagship phone screens and batteries, MacBook and ThinkPad logic boards, PS5 HDMI ports, drone gimbals and arms, and any device holding data you have not backed up.
Where it sometimes does not
Entry-level tablets and budget laptops more than five years old with multiple faults. In those cases we say so during the free diagnosis rather than quoting a repair you will regret.
