OEM-grade vs aftermarket screens: what you are really buying

January 6, 20266 min readDr Phone Fix Group Engineering

Two quotes for the same repair can differ by a hundred dollars. The difference is almost always the panel — and you will notice it every single day.

A screen is not one component. It is a glass laminate, a digitiser, a display panel, a backlight or emissive layer, and a driver board — and cheap replacements compromise on all five.

Where cheap panels fail

Colour accuracy drifts, peak brightness drops by a third outdoors, touch sampling lags in fast games, and the oleophobic coating wears through within months. Worst of all, incompatible driver boards can draw more power and shorten battery life.

On AMOLED devices, a glass-only refurbishment is the biggest red flag. It looks identical on the counter and delaminates within weeks.

Our standard

We fit complete OEM-grade assemblies, transfer original display programming where the platform supports it, and back every screen with a 12-month warranty valid at any Dr Phone Fix Group hub worldwide.
