Joy-Con drift, explained — and why cleaning never lasts

Drift is a mechanical wear problem, not a dirt problem. Understanding the difference saves you repeating the same repair every few months.
Analogue sticks read position from two resistive tracks. As the wiper contacts wear, the track surface degrades and the controller reads movement that is not happening.
Why compressed air and alcohol only buy time
Cleaning temporarily restores contact across the worn area, which is why drift returns within weeks. The track is physically damaged; only a new module resolves it.
The permanent fix
We replace the analogue module outright, recalibrate both sticks and test full range in software. It takes about 45 minutes and carries a 6-month warranty.
